In 2013, I became a Marketing/PR intern at The Fashion School in Brighton. When I first started, I was granted access to the website and social media accounts, as the founder, Caroline Gration, wanted me to give her online profiles a ‘fresh, new look’. I started with her website, changing the whole layout of the site using WordPress.

Adding features such as drop down menus, new pages/tabs and a new theme.

‘Easy to use’ contact and booking form.

After completing the website, I then started working on the Facebook Page. I added albums to organise the photographs instead of having them all on the timeline. I also added a new cover photograph and more in depth information about the business and its achievements.

I then added new tabs to enable Facebook users to access the website through Facebook, without leaving Facebook itself. I then added a few more information tabs to try and widen the businesses profile, by adding tabs such as ‘International Students’ and ‘Testimonials’. I then kept the page updated daily, adding the school’s future classes under ‘Events’ and engaging with the users by adding relevant statuses.

I then updated the Twitter account. Adding a new Profile picture and header photograph. This account was not as successful as the Facebook Page, therefore this account did not reach a wide audience. Gration’s media updates were very much in the style of her students, to engage with them. Therefore, I had to adapt to this style with my own updates.

As a PR for the school, I had to book, organise and advertise The Fashion School’s first Fashion Show, to enable the students to showcase their work to friends and family as well as the general public. To advertise the show online, I used Skiddle and Eventbrite as well as The Argus, a local paper, to list the show. The Argus event is pictured above.

It took me a few weeks to get this page perfect, however, in the end the work paid off. The school is now on Google maps and is building a wider audience than ever before. ![]() International Students pageI created this page from scratch on the website. This page was used to present the new English Language Students Programme, which launched when I started my internship. I approached various colleges and international schools in Brighton and Hove, with a link to this page on the website. It includes bite size information that is crucial for considering schools. | ![]() Email to International SchoolsA screenshot showing my capabilities when it comes to PR work. | ![]() Facebook Page announcementI posted an announcement on the day to inform the guests about the event details. This was well received and seen by all the students and guests before the show. |
![]() Behind the ScenesOn the day I became Events Manager. This consisted of setting up the hall and surrounding area, managing the lighting and music as well as making sure everyone knew their roles on the day to ensure the show ran smoothly. | ![]() Mixing deckMy view from the mixing deck for lights and music. | ![]() Before the showI set up the lights so that only the catwalk was illuminated. I used the lights to create atmosphere, which proved very successful. |
![]() Show time! The lights had to be bright during the show for the photographer to take a good quality photograph. | ![]() Finale! The show turned out to be a great success! | ![]() Editing the show photographsI edited a selection of images on photoshop, to lighten the photos as well as combine them to save space and time. These were then put on the website using Soliloque, to create a professional look. |
